Remember when I told you I wanted to reorganize our studio? Well, I finished. Or, I should say, we finished, because my wonderfully handy husband hung the shelves for me. So here it is...
These shelves are sturdy and hold a lot more than the previous little freestanding shelf that has followed me around since my first apartment out of college. The lowest shelf is accessible by two-year-old munchkins. I'm planning to put a little step stool in here so that the art materials on the second shelf are accessible as well. The shelves weren't expensive to build--about $75 for the brackets and the wood. The desk holding my sewing machine is a Goodwill find. And the buckets and baskets holding the art materials were all in the $1 section at Target (although some cost $2.50). So the studio makeover didn't end up costing much at all.
I moved our art drying wall into the studio which makes it a lot more accessible. It's created from wire strung between eye screws, with wooden clothespins to hang the art. Maia is now in love with hanging up her paintings herself. Our previous drying lines were too high for her to reach.
This part of the studio is the same. Maia's painting on canvas from when she was a year old hangs above the dog chalkboard. I'm not storing Maia's art in the studio anymore. The new boxes I'm using for her art are on a shelf in our storage room, out of the way, but close enough that I'll use them.
My favorite part? Having a spot for my sewing machine...
