We experimented with painting and printing different textures yesterday for the Toddler Art Group meeting. We made homemade "brushes" of feathers, string, ribbons, etc taped onto the end of a straw. We also had dish scrubbies and a mesh bag to paint with. And one member brought a couple of sponges and a roller (which was the big hit of the morning!).
Marlise, above, is painting with the roller.
Here's little Nathan, adding his texture with his fingers. Most of the kiddos went through a stage early on during which they tasted the paint. It's completely normal and one of the reasons we use non-toxic tempera paint.
Nathan's brother, Justin, is experimenting with the end of the roller while Maia waits for her turn.
And here Marlise, Maia, and Vivi have moved on to experiencing the paint with their whole hands.
And the aftermath.
The kids loved this project! I think we'll have to get some of those rollers for another project since the one we had today was such a hit. Rachel said she picked it up at Lowes for a dollar. They would be great for another painting and printing session like today.
