And so we begin... Yesterday was a snow day, and Harry was home from work, so we made the tissue paper candle holders as a family which was a treat.
First I spread newspaper over our dining room table, then set out the tissue paper and some Mod Podge in individual bowls with foam brushes. The Mod Podge was a bit smelly (although it claims to be nontoxic on the label) so I think I'd try watered down Elmer's glue next time. As for the glasses, I searched in vain for some at Goodwill with relatively unbumpy sides, but ended up purchasing a set of four inexpensive ones.
After tearing the tissue paper into small pieces, we brushed glue on the glass, stuck on pieces of tissue paper, then brushed more glue on top of the tissue paper. It was fun and easy!
Here's the set just after completion. Maia's, on the left, has the least tissue paper but the most glue. The Mod Podge starts out opaque (above) but dries clear and shiny.
The candle holders were dry enough at dinner time to fill with tea lights. I love them! And they feel extra special since we made them together as a family. By the way, the pizza pictured? It was the best ever! Harry made it from this recipe and we all devoured slice after slice. Mmmm...
