We had a casual playground party for Maia this weekend and, being who I am, I couldn't help but include an art activity. I decided on decorate-your-own party hats which turned out to be surprisingly popular (considering all the fun playground equipment vying for attention).
Using a commercial party hat as a template, I cut out blank ones from white poster board, stapled them closed, punched holes in the sides, and tied on chin straps. Super easy. I used elastic string from the fabric store for some of the chin straps but ran out and had to use yarn for the rest.
I stocked a picnic table with the blank hats and decorating supplies including markers, ribbon, lace, feathers, glue, pink paper easter grass, yarn, and stickers. There were several people at the table every time I looked -- drawing, cutting, gluing, embellishing. The results were pretty fantastic.
Here's the birthday girl in her party hat and Josie in the background, carrying hers.
