We received a surprise package from some friends yesterday. They had just returned from a trip to Morocco and sent us a postcard of Marrakech, some fragrant soap, and a couple of fun changepurses with Moroccan coins in them for the girls. The first thing we had to do, after figuring out how to open the changepurses, was to talk about where Morocco is in the world and what kind of country it is.
We got out our handy dandy Barefoot Books World Atlas and the world map that came with it...
...turned to the page for Northern Africa, and found Morocco. We talked a little about the pictures associated with the country—the interesting teapot and cup, especially, since our friends had said that they drank a lot of tea while they were there. Maia asked if they had to wear long clothes like the person in the illustration.
Here's one of the little leather changepurses, shown open (the closed version is in the photo above).
After finding Morocco and talking about traveling overseas, we had to go to the Australia page and point out where Maia had been as a baby (Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road). And dream about places we might travel in the future...
Have you traveled with your kids? Besides the Australia trip when Maia was three months old and snuggled close to me in a sling, we haven't. I fantasize about traveling and would also love to explore other cultures and places with my girls, but the logistics of traveling with them overwhelms me (oh, and then there's the financial aspect...).
