A Rainy Day Play is an etsy shop and business owned and operated by Cassidy, sewer of costumes and mom to 4 children. She makes fun dress-up clothes for kids including superhero capes, fairy tale cloaks, pirate hats and hooks, Robin Hood and Peter Pan costumes, jet pack wings, and mermaid tails. (My daughters both requested her mermaid costumes when they saw me working on this post.)

When I asked Cassidy how she got into sewing costumes for children, this is what she said...
.
Just over a year ago, we moved 2,000 miles away from all our friends and family, to the great state of Illinois - where it rained a LOT more than I was used to!
.
I struggled to find ways to occupy my kids inside, without resorting to the TV always being on. It wasn't until my son wrapped a blanket around his waist and declared "Look! I a PRINCESS!" that I thought maybe these kids could use some dress-up clothes.
.
I started my Etsy shop, A Rainy Day Play, in November 2011, and originally my main focus was for the boys - I felt that, unless you wanted a superhero cape, there wasn't a whole lot of boy stuff to choose from. I've expanded to include some for the little ladies as well - my daughter's dress-up mermaid tail has actually been the source of MORE than one fight in our house, so now even my boys have their own mermaid tails!
I make my own patterns for all my items, and try to be creative and original in my designs.
Besides being the most honest product-testers I could ever hope for, my kids provide me with inspiration and motivation. My best ideas always seem to come when I'm rolling around on the floor, playing pretend with my kids. I'm grateful to be able to stay at home with them, while still earning some income (and have fun creating) at the same time.
